The Internet’s Carbon Footprint

I never really though about how much of carbon emissions does it take to load my website. Went ahead and removed a bunch of unnecessary images, and will expedite migration from (3Mb) to :gatsby: staticly generated site (300K), and will further optimize images and bundles to make it even more eco-friendly ♻️

#Bitcoin and #cryptocurrencies in a nutshell:

Kid: Dad, can I have $10?

Dad: $9.72? What do you need $10.37 for?

I've been struggling with @pixelfed setup on my server with Docker, and finally after over a week, it's up! :pixelfed:

The issue was with Redis (not sure what specifically, will investigate later), and cutting it off resolved 419 problem.

Now. How do I fill my "local" timeline with other people's photos? In other words, how do I remote-subscribe and discover new people to follow?

This dorky does this all the time! Why is she doing this?! It looks so uncomfortable!

(Well, technically, I’m not paying for it even when someone is using it, not until it gets hit over 50,000 times. So... it’s basically, free)

Just discovered how easy it is to deploy functions when is not involved. Messing around with and it's a breeze. Literally, 2 minutes and there's a publicly available functional endpoint I'm not paying for unless someone's using it: (data isn't stored anywhere, just displayed back to you)

Well, this sucks. Linux Journal is no more (again).

Hopefully the website stays around as it has some really good content.

Sorry to see it go. All the best to @kyle and crew.

Pulled the plug on transition from to , ordered the new XPS 15. Wish me luck, I guess.

Why millions of #books entered #publicdomain?

One secret of the publishing industry is that most US books published before 1964 never extended their copyright, meaning they’re in the public domain today.

The NYPL converted the Internet Archive's digital copies of the 'Catalog of Copyright Entries' registration and copyright information into an XML format. Now we know that around 80% of all the books published from 1923 to 1964 are in the public domain.

@rosnovsky Removed Gargon because he's already seen this.

@cwebber and I made a podcast about actual solutions to these problems last week.

This is how we address these problems, not by biting around the edges.

tips for newcomers

follow, boost and fave all you like! we don't care about follow ratios and faves are private. go hog wild!

boosting your own posts is 100% ok. no shame. the TL is chronological, so there's no algorithm to fight.

please do use CWs. if in doubt, use one just to be safe.

hashtags are your friends and really the only effective way to search for posts. be sure to use them to maximize your reach.

don't be afraid to engage. dumping pictures is fine but stay and chat a bit too!
